The  Contest Rules
  • Winner can choose between $2000 cash prize or a publishing & promotion package that includes cover design by Mumtaz Mustafa (Senior Art Director at HarperCollins), proofreading, interior formatting for print (paperback) and ebook, Amazon optimization, 3 month NetGalley promotion, and direct promotion to 9000+ book clubs through our exclusive partnership with BookClubz.com. Each Finalist not selected as the Winner will receive a $100 prize.
  • Submitted manuscripts must be in PDF format, but are not required to be professionally formatted for print production.
  • Submissions must be a minimum of 30,000 words and a maximum of 150,000 words. 
  • All entries must be in English.
  • US citizens are not eligible.
  • Authors cannot have had any books published by a traditional publisher prior to or during this contest. Author is allowed to have had one or more books published by a hybrid publisher (excluding the book submitted to this contest) and/or to have self-published one or more books (excluding the book submitted to this contest).  
  • Authors can submit more than one manuscript, but each must be entered separately. 
  • The cost to enter is $59 through May 31, 2020, and $79 from June 1-August 31, 2020. All entries must be received on or before 11:59pm EST on August 31, 2020 to be eligible. The $59 fee applies to all manuscripts received on or before 11:59pm EST on May 31, 2020. The $79 fee applies to all manuscripts received after then. 
  • Submission fees are non-refundable.
  • All material submitted must be original and the author must have all rights of ownership. 
  • Manuscripts developed by a writing team are welcome, but each submission must be made by one person who will be the primary contact and the name we use to identify the author if selected for any level of distinction. 
  • All rights to the manuscript remain with the author until and unless other arrangements are made. 
  • No comments, critique or review will be provided for any manuscript submitted to this contest.
  • Quarter Finalists will be announced October 1, 2020. Semi Finalists will be announced November 1, 2020 and Finalists will be named December 1, 2020. The Winner will be announced on December 15, 2020. 
  • Authors selected for all levels of distinction (Quarter Finalists, Semi Finalists, Finalists and Winner) will be listed on the DartFrog website and social media channels by the name used on the submission form.
  • Authors selected for any level of distinction may be asked to prove their eligibility and identity. DartFrog reserves the right to disqualify any author whose identity or eligibility cannot be proven, or whose work is deemed to be plagiarized or otherwise unoriginal. 
  • If any author's submitted work is determined, during or after the contest, to have been plagiarized or is in any way not within the author's rights to submit, DartFrog will not be held liable or responsible for any repercussions, including legal action, that may be brought against the author by the party whose work was plagiarized, stolen or otherwise not authorized for use. If such author is a Finalist or the Winner and has already received a prize, the full cash value of that prize will be owed back to DartFrog.  
  • The winning author will have ten (10) days to respond, after which DartFrog reserves the right to disqualify him/her and choose a different winner from the Finalists. 
  • Notification will be made via the email address the author provides on the submission form.
